The rooftop and exterior wall water recycling system of the building can meet 20% to 30% of the building's water demand. Taipei 101 sets up two water recycling platforms every eight floors for irrigation and toilet flushing, and the building's chilled water from air conditioning systems is also recycled.
Rainwater Harvesting System Schematic Diagram
The system begins with rainwater falling from clouds, which is then directed through the building's collection pipes to a filtration pool. The filtered water is stored in rainwater tanks (RT1, RT2, RT3) and distributed via a pumping system for non-potable purposes such as toilet flushing and irrigation. The "filter" mentioned in the diagram l refers to a device for removing impurities from rainwater. In years of abundant rainfall, this system can save approximately 58,000 tons of water annually. Additionally, Taipei 101 has installed smart digital water meters and water-saving devices to monitor and optimize water use, preventing waste and conserving resources.
Drinking Water Treatment System
The drinking water system in Taipei 101, featuring low-flow fixtures and a dedicated water management system, effectively reduces water usage without compromising tenant satisfaction. Equipped with activated carbon filters, deep-bed filters (using anthracite, sand, and garnet for trapping particles down to 5 microns), UV sterilization, reverse osmosis membranes, and softening filters, it produces high-quality drinking water. This system earned LEED innovation points, reflecting Taipei 101's design philosophy that cuts drinking water use by at least 30% annually, saving about 28 million liters.
